joe

lost his mobility in a freak wrestling accident and was paralyzed over 20 years ago. for many years he struggled with depression - one of the things he regained over the years was the ability to draw. here he works on a drawing of a hand that he says he dreams about - in his dreams it trys to reach up and drag him into the grave, downward. he said he is drawing it to turn it around and make it as if the hand is reaching up and out, towards God.

mom/daughter

this woman had two children with cerebral palsy - one has passed on. here she visits with her daughter who is non-verbal. the mother gets down on the ground and gives her a hug often so she can feel her against her chest and her daughter responds well to her touch - amazing to witness.

blogged down

sorry the blog has been slow as of late. i'm working on something for a thanksgiving project which involves me by the phone for hours at a time with my oversized-calendar in my left hand and 15 diet cokes in my right.

i'll repost again over the weekend. in the meanwhile for those interested in seeing a cool site, one of our coworkers recently finished her site - some really good work on it:

more eviction

another story on eviction - the irony in her story is that this woman received a housing voucher to assist her and the children -but she won't get it for 18 months - meanwhile she faces eviction next week since her last boyfriend and father of the youngest kid skipped out on her and left her hanging. sent to do a portrait of her and the family.

bed bugs

this woman's landlord is trying to evict her by oct 16th, claiming she is the cause of the infestation in her apartment complex - she says otherwise, that she keeps it clean but no matter what she can't stop the bugs which attack them in their sleep at night. it's intense to stare at a single mom facing this situation and feeling so helpless.
