poy

woo hoo! placed in poy this year.

but what is very cool is in the same category so did

lisa krantz (#1)
jason arthurs (award of excellence)
justin cook (same as above)

all very good friends of mine and people whose work i admire.

one of the great things i love about this field is the tight-knit community
that exists and the support of each other's work, and of what we're all so passionate about. congrats to all the winners, even logan who thinks awards are for losers:) who, by the way, won an award in poy himself. i think he slipped the judges a 20.

feature hunting

So it's still cold here and we still have to feature hunt. So the feature hunt goes inside - here's a shot from today at a local boxing club.

It's a good job we have that you can just walk up to places and gain access, all because you're a photojournalist. I can't imagine doing anything else.

garden show

so i don't have flowers, or plants, or even a chia pet. heck, i didn't know what a tulip looked like before today. but i got sent to the garden and flower show here in connecticut.

here this girl looks at butterflies trapped and held captive at the whim of some people who try to make money off their fluttering existence. ah, capitalism.

promotion

state police promotion - during the ceremony and before. sometimes i wonder what it would be like to be a state trooper and or a policeman. but i look silly in a uniform... wait, i already wear one - black and tan. although sometimes i wear this one outfit that pays homage to unc and carolina blue. ok now i'm rambling. happy weekend.

snow

OK so when I was younger I always wanted to live where it was colder and where it snowed more than the South. I never thought I would be living though in New England and in the cold for so long.

So I stepped out today in my 15 layers of clothes and whined - ALOT. It's funny - in some situations I can get to a "meat mode" and go through a lot of pain, but when it comes to cold weather I'm like a kid eating broccoli - I don't like it so much.

My right toe got real cold and it hurt. I decided right then I could never be an Artic explorer. I'm too much of a wuss. Here's two pics from today.

wheelchair rugby

I've started a wheelchair rugby photo page - it's at the tail-end of their season so I'll have to crank it up again in Sept when the season starts - doubt this one will be used but it's the first day of shooting. Good people to be around. Here this guy got knocked out of his chair and the coach is coming to pick him up.

swim

so i finally did the aquarium and get half-nekkid in the pool shoot.

i took my shirt off and one woman said, wow, you really are pale.

uh... thanks. some things i already know.

sign language class

from a sign class at a local university. funny how they kept straying from "real" conversation to local gossip... so universal.
