swimmer part two
here's the pubbed version we went with on the all-state swimmer. shot underwater with a cool new point and shoot camera we just bought at the paper, on tungsten setting. i tried to gel the little flash light but it didn't work to warm him up - i didn't bring strong enough tape to withstand my frantic attempts to swim underwater.
but it was fun to wear those little floaties. i looked cool.

sweet woman
so i had to photograph this 90-year-old woman who is in remarkable shape. here's a shot of her playing bach - it was beautiful listening to her play. after she was done i asked her to play for me again, this time i put the camera down and just sat beside her and listened.
talk about a great day at the office.

ice cream
did a freelance assignment for CaringBridge, a great company that helps people connect via the web with loved ones who go through terrible things like cancer.
photographed this child who made it through cancer and is now, thankfully, in remission.
here's one from the shoot. what a great family and a wonderful kid. i hope they have many, many, years together.

throwing this out there

check it. join the discussion. lots of thoughts on this - it serves us all to have a good dialogue so we have a broad understanding of what should be acceptable and what shouldn't be - i'm not placing any thoughts/judgements here but rather am encouraging us as a community to further this discussion.

loss
this man lost his daughter in a car accident - the original assignment was just to shoot him on his lunch break at a construction site. we spoke and reset the location to his daughter's bedroom - he's a wonderful man who really opened up and trusted our time together. this frame was made while he was thinking of his daughter.

p is not just for preston
it's also for pulitzer.
preston gannaway was announced today as a winner of this year's pulitzer awards.
all i can think of saying is how amazing it has been to watch her progress - from her first images years ago to where she is now. she is an incredibly gifted photographer, and the images from her project which won are so intense, so respectful, so beautiful.
no words can sum up how much i respect her work and, more importantly, her character.
i'm lucky to have known her for so many years.
i'm even more lucky that she is my step-sister.
congrats preston. i, and so many others, are so damn proud of you.

my kid could do that
so these students from yale university held a performance art session where they wore grecian-like clothes and carried twizzlers around the british museum of art on campus - as part of the performance they would place the twizzlers at the base of art pieces in "honor" of the work.
mmmm.
i'll leave you to your thoughts on this. believe me, i had a few thoughts myself.
