everest book
one of our photographers here at the courant just published a book which i think could be a big hit. i wanted to plug it for him and encourange the support. if you buy one book this year, buy this one:)
High Crimes: The Fate of Everest in an Age of Greed
Available at www.amazon.com
It's by Michael Kodas, a great guy and someone who worked his tail off for this book.

bball
shot from bball game this sat. uconn at seton hall
it's been a nice break from daily work getting to shoot so much sports lately, but i tell you i really can't stand all the alpha males roaming around during the games. thank goodness our profession seems to be moving more away from that type of personality. lord knows the last thing we need out there is another cocky photographer who thinks they know it all.

inspiration part 2
i heard a quote today that really struck me, especially in light of all the instability in the profession in which i, and so many people i care about, have chosen.
it hit me so much i pulled off the side of the road to write it down - one interpretation could be a sad reservation of the situation, but in the context of which this was said, i think it rather speaks more to the determination of the individual to keep going - to keep focused and working - despite the chaos.
"I don't have any expectations of what the business owes me... I have no sense of entitlement... I just work."
ok now, on that note. off to build a better tomorrow.

inspiration
Bruce Moyer from St. Petersburg Times sent me this link:
www.jmcolberg.com/weblog/2008/02/what_makes_a_great_portrait.html
There is one particular passage that stood out to me, and I'll be sure to try it next time the situation calls for it:
"...what I say to my subjects "is to focus and concentrate on the most important thing in their life, whether it is a moment of happiness, sadness or indifference to the wider world, just a very personal moment, from there the interpretation of capturing that is down to me," by Kalpesh Lathigra.
Rock and roll.

more babies
my good friend allison just had twins - here's one of the beauties.
it was great seeing her with the kids - they're lucky to have her as a mother.
all these babies are making me think maybe i should get something to take care of - like a plant, a 401K, or a small goat (they're really cute).
once i bought a chia pet (the herb kind) but it died. i didn't think you could kill one of these.
ANYWAY, congrats to allison!

rocco's madness
a madman's notes on how he's going to build a better tomorrow at the southern short course. shawn rocco was furiously thinking about how he's going to do his portraits at the ssc. if you missed atlanta two years ago - you missed a great time.
this year shawn will be using his mad enthusiasm and talent to do cool portraits of participants at this years conference in charlotte.
